Walk into Malcolm 51 Harbour Island and you will feel that you have stepped back into the Bahamas in the 1960’s, when legalized gambling brought in many tourists and a notable group of investors. In those days, nightclubs and restaurants had a distinctive British Colonial décor, which included wooden chairs, Tiffany style accent lamps, and multiple large ceiling fans.
The restaurant is located on Chapel Street in Dunmore Town, which is the closest thing to a downtown area on Harbour Island. Malcolm 51 Harbor Island sits right on the pink sand of Harbour Island and has a classic feel that will take you back to a time when the Bahamas first became a vacation hot spot. What’s more, you can dine inside with the view of a beautiful fountain or al fresco, by candlelight with the sound of the ocean waves crashing very nearby. A flamingo or a horseback rider may even make an appearance.
The Food at Malcolm 51 Harbor Island
The food is as rich and elegant as you would expect. The appetizers include a potato leek soup with salmon, raw zucchini ribbons, fontina cheese and almonds. Even the kale salad contains cheese and a rich, creamy buttermilk dressing.
Entrees include lobster and shrimp linguini in cream sauce and eggplant confit fettuccini, which comes smothered with a sauce that contains parmigiana and walnuts.
The dessert tray changes often and always includes a delicious array of fabulous confections. Typical choices include chocolate mousse, pumpkin cheese cake and several ice creams.
This Harbor Island restaurant offers several different high-end champagnes. If the bubbly is not your thing, there are plenty of wines to chose from, including full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon and several light and fun Italian Pinot Grigios. If you are not a wine drinker, there are plenty of top shelf liquors and beers.
