Enjoy the Festivities on the Beach

Whenever visitors plan their stay on the Out Islands of Eleuthera and Harbour Island, there’s always an internal struggle between the siren call of the beach and the desire to explore the area and mingle with the locals. Fortunately, the Eleuthera events on the beach that you’ll find on our islands allow you to experience both aspects of island living in equal measure.

On Harbour Island and Eleuthera, each season brings a new reason to celebrate on the beach, so if you’re wondering what to do in the Bahamas, then great! Because there are activity and Eleuthera events every season!

Summer on Harbour Island means celebrating Fisherman’s Fest, Bahamas Independence Day, Emancipation Day, and the Harbour Island Farmer’s Market. On Eleuthera, summer brings on the famous Pineapple Festival, the Green Castle Haulers Festival, Bahamas Independence Day, the Eleuthera Regatta, Fishermen’s Fest, and Emancipation Day. Other events such as Palmetto Point’s homecoming, the Deep Creek Conch Fest, the Savannah Sound Heritage Festival, the Bluff, the Bannerman Town Festival, the Hatchet Bay Festival, and the Tarpum Bay Festival are all worth checking out.

The autumn season on Harbour Island brings on the North Eleuthera Sailing Regatta, while fall on Eleuthera means the Rock Sound Sailing Regatta, National Heroes Day, Walk for a Cure, and Harbour Time Fest. Wemyss Bight and Green Castle host homecomings and festivals in fall with a variety of diversions to raise money for the community.

In the winter, Junkanoo is a famous celebration that has even been depicted in the James Bond movie Thunderball, filled with bright colors, masks, music, and revelry around Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, rotating between Harbour Island and Eleuthera.

Other winter festivals such as the Majority Rule Holiday and the Annual Tree Lighting and Music in the Garden at Palmetto Point are worth celebrating. Harbour Island also has fireworks displays for New Year’s Eve.

Spring festivals and celebrations on Eleuthera include the Annual Cancer Society Hope Ball, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, the Eleuthera All That Jazz Festival, Earth Day Festival, and Whit Monday.
