If you are planning a tropical getaway then consider booking a trip to Eleuthera Island. The island is a crown jewel of the Caribbean with its pink sand beaches, crystal clear waters, quiet snorkeling lagoons, and tropical flora. You can easily spend days exploring the island’s natural beauty both on and offshore. One of the things do in in Harbor Island, Bahamas is to see the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve.

About the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve

The Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve is a 25-acre preserve dedicated to education and the preservation of Eleuthera’s native plants. The preserve has miles of trails that take you through the island’s native habitat where you will see wild orchids, hardwood trees, and the plants that Eleuthera’s residents have been using as food and medicine for hundreds of years.

The entrance of the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve takes you to the Visitors Center. Once at the Visitors Center, you can plan your route around the preserve. The trails take you to different sections of the preserve including a poisonous plants section, the medicinal trail, and the mangrove boardwalk. The preserve also has a freshwater wetland area and a trail decided to the edible plants on the island.

At the southern tip of the preserve is Ethan’s Tower. The 75-foot-tower provides stunning 360-degree views of the plant preserve and 120-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean. Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve is the first national park on Eleuthera Island. The preserve was founded by Shelby White in honor of her late husband Leon Levy and is definitely one of the funnest things do in Harbor Island, Bahamas.

The Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve is located on Banks Road two miles from Governor’s Harbour. They are open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost of admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children.
