We just returned from 15 days on this wonderful island. by jkm 12/08/2012
We just returned from 15 days on this wonderful island. Baycienda on Whale Point has a spectacular setting. It has room for 8 (10 if someone sleeps on the futon in the living room but it is very firm). A guest cottage is also available. The sleeping pavilion has 1 King Bedroom, with attached full bath, with a fantastic view of the Bay. We woke up with the sun and view of the water right from bed! The two queen bedrooms also have water views and two full bathrooms. The 4th bedroom has two twin beds and opens onto the courtyard. Each room has a personal a/c unit. Across the courtyard is the main living area with a completely open kitchen, living and dining area. Massive glass doors open on the south and west sides. The kitchen is adequately stocked with utensils and spices (we left what we didn't use and it appears most others do the same). No sense in wasting! The washer and dryer are in the cottage so must be shared if both units are occupied. The dock and boat and Tahoe were huge bonuses. The remote beaches require some fun 4x4 exploring!Totally adds to the adventure. Tom has built a small reef under the dock so we had everything from turtles to Rays to eels for our personal enjoyment. Cistern Cay is due west from the house and is a 2 minute boat ride for some spectacular snorkeling. Go at high tide and anchor on the SE side of the rock. The water for the house is rain water caught and stored in a cistern. Great for showering but be conscientious of it's limited supply! Bought bottled water for drinking. Power outages can be frequent but there is a generator if it lasts too long. The house is clean and comfortable but not fancy. Sometimes things just don't work. Maybe they will later, maybe they won't. There are several restaurants within 15 minutes. Daddy's Joe's is just across the Glass Window Bridge and has great food. A little farther down is Rainbow Inn. Worth the drive. Be careful driving after dark if the humidity is high. Take a towel in the car to clean off the windows as they can get steamy!! The Bluff (NW of Texaco) has a huge grocery store by island standards. Reasonable prices too. Take the boat up to Harbour Island, tie up at Gov't Dock (get gas here too). Rent a golf cart from the many places on the island and then explore. Definitely get bug spray for the No-See-Ums. Took allergy pills for the itching which seemed to help. Whale point is a great starting point for adventures North or South! Would definitely return! Thanks Tom!
A most enjoyable week spent on this out-island compound. by Joe M. 04/08/2012
A most enjoyable week spent on this out-island compound. The Ocean on one side and the bay on the other. We never wanted to leave the site but when we did the car and boat that was provided by the owner was our transportation. Harbor Island was an easy commute of 10 minutes in the boat and lead us to many fine restaurants, The owner made sure that everything was ready for us on arrival. We made a deal with one of the locals and she provided some great island delacacies during our stay. It was a touch of heaven on earth and a most relaxing and enjoyable vacation, Already making plans to go back.
Wow, what a relaxing spot! by Lamar 03/08/2012
Wow, what a relaxing spot! The views are breathtaking. You get a view of the ocean on one side and a panoramic view of the bay on the other side. The bay is tranquil and perfect for swimming and boating. The sound of crashing waves on the ocean side will sing a sweet lullaby to you every night. I was looking for a spot to get away from everything....I found it. The guest host is charming. His local knowledge helped us plan our daily adventures and helped us find the best spots for dining and sightseeing. 5 stars across the board!
